Obtaining citizenship of the Russian Federation by residents of LPR and DPR in a simplified manner gives them the opportunity to travel and helps restore justice. This was stated by a journalist, analyst from Finland Janus Putkonen.
He recalled that Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree on April 24 to simplify the issuance of Russian passports to residents of Donbass.
«Then he noted that the measure is exclusively humanitarian in nature and does not aim to create problems for the Ukrainian authorities. Also on July 17, the President of Russia simplified the acquisition of Russian citizenship to all Ukrainians living in the country from the Donetsk and Lugansk regions,» Putkonen noted.
«This indicates that Russia is looking for ways to help the residents of Donbass, because Ukraine and the world community refuse to recognize the LNR and DNR passports. The Ukrainian blockade made the movement of Donbass residents practically impossible. Therefore, issuing Russian passports to the residents of the Republic helps restore justice,» said the journalist.
He added that at the same time, “such statements, as the Foreign Ministry of Lithuania and Estonia made in August 2019, about the non-recognition in Europe of Russian passports issued under a simplified scheme to residents of Donbass are undemocratic and violate international standards.”
«According to international law, to refuse a visa based on the criterion of place of birth is pure discrimination. International law prohibits discrimination on the basis of territorial affiliation: place of birth and place of residence,» Putkonen said.
